Mentorship

By connecting elementary and middle school students with adults and high school leaders, we give them a chance to excel academically and socially. Success from within also pairs students with professionals who can provide mentorship for life and career.

Character

Success from within believes character is a key to a person’s success. By engaging students in character building activities through the Character Counts and Second Steps curriculum’s, students learn how to be resilient, honest, responsible citizens.

Financial Literacy

Although students spend an ample amount of time in school learning mathematics, very little time is spent teaching students financial literacy. Success from within believes that financial literacy is a stepping stone to building life-changing wealth.

Entrepreneurship

Innovative minds solve some of our world’s greatest challenges. By teaching students the basics of entrepreneurship, we will produce students who are ready to be our world’s leaders and problem solvers.

Giving Back to the Next Generation

Scholarships

To support the youth, our organization awards two scholarships per class. Scholarships are awarded to those who achieve the highest grades and make the greatest progress.

Scores Decline for Young Students

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) administered the NAEP long-term trend (LTT) reading and mathematics assessments to 13-year-old students from October to December of the 2022–23 school year. The average scores for 13-year-olds declined 4 points in reading and 9 points in mathematics compared to the previous assessment administered during the 2019–20 school year. Compared to a decade ago, the average scores declined 7 points in reading and 14 points in mathematics.

Increasing Poverty Rates in the Valley

While agriculture creates prosperity, it is not shared or accessed equitably. Fresno’s concentrated poverty rate is the highest in California. A third of all children are in poverty in Fresno, with half of all Black children in poverty.

There are 999,101 residents in Fresno County. 20.6% of the residents experience poverty, more than 1.5 times the rate in California (11.8%) and the United States (12.3%). More than half of Black (55.6%) and Latinx (58.7%) households are in relative poverty—where they don’t have the minimum income needed to maintain the average standard of living in Fresno County.
